Alexis Garter Stitch Sweater
with matching hat and leg warmers.



                 
Very Quick and easy Baby Sweater.
This should Fit largely on a One Year Old and fit for a few years.
It is very cute!!!


Materials:
Spin a Bulky weight Yarn About 8 wraps per inch
Approximately 1 pound of Thrums. You will have left over.

#10 needles
Darning Needle for sewing together
Gauge - about 3 ½ stitches per inch

Instructions:
Back ( make 1 )
Cast on 48 stitches using a tail cast on.
Knit 13 inches in garter stitch-
Knit every row.

Bind off 7sts, Knit to the end.
Turn
Next row, Bind Off 7 stitches, knit to end.
Turn
Next row bind off 10 stitches, knit to end
Turn
Bind off remaining 14 stitches.

Front ( make 2 - one with button holes one without )

No Buttonholes Side
Cast on 26 stitches
Knit 10 ½ " using garter stitch - (K every row)
Bind Off 7 stitches Knit to end.
Turn.
Knit back.
Turn.
Bind off 1 stitch every neck edge row until 17 stitches remain.
Always knit back.

Knit even with back armhole side edge.
Then....
Bind Off 7 stitches, knit to end,
Turn.
Knit back.
Turn.
Bind off all 10 stitches.

Buttonhole side-
Cast On 26 stitches-
*Knit 1 " k2 stitches, Bind Off 2 , Knit to end,
Turn.
Knit back to the Bound off stitches,
Cast on 2 stitches, K2.
Turn.*

Knit 2 ½" more in garter stitch, and repeat button hole pattern rows.
Repeat for 5-button s total, having the last buttonhole at the neck edge.
Turn
( on neck edge side)
Bind off 7 stitches, K across.
Turn.
Knit back to inside edge-
Turn-
Bind off 1 stitch until 17 stitches remain.

Knit even with back armhole side edge.
Then.....
Bind Off 7 stitches, knit to end,
Turn.
Knit back.
Turn.
Bind off all 10 stitches.

Sew back to fronts at shoulder seams.

Sleeves ( make 2 )
Cast on 26 stitches
Knit in garter stitch 3 ½ "
Inc 1 stitch on beginning and end of row by....

* Knit one make 1, knit to last 2 stitches, make one knit one,
Turn. Knit one row.*
Repeat between *'s until you have increased 10 stitches or a total of 36 stitches. Knit even until 10 inches.
Bind Off.

Fold sleeves in half to find the center and pin to shoulder seam on the jacket body. Pin sleeves along edge of jacket. Now sew up the side of the jacket up to the end of the sleeve.

Finishing-
Either using the same yarn- or a complimentary one, spin about 2 ounces of finer weight yarn- about 14 wraps per inch.
With a crochet hook, about size C Pick up 1 chain stitch at neck edge and single crochet around the edge of the neck.


Leg Warmers- use finer weight yarn
Cast On 33 stitches on a #2 - 3 needle
Place last C/O stitch on #1 and knit the last st and 1st CO stitch together. Now you have 32 sts.
K2, P2 or K1, P1 for ½".
Knit 3- 3 ½ inches
K2, P2, or K1, P1 for another ½".
Bind off all stitches loosely.
Make another one to match.


Hat-
Cast On 60 stitches or a multiple of 10.
Knit for at least 3 ¾ inches.
Place a marker every 10 stitches.
*K2 tog. After every marker and SSK before each marker.
( SSK= slip one, st, slip another , then knit those 2 with the left needle)
Knit one row. *
Repeat these 2 rows until 4 stitches remain.
Knit the 4 stitches in the round for a few inches.
Bind off,
then tie in a knot or let the little "knob top" stand straight up. Very cute either way!!!

Now give to a favorite toddler! Or a baby gift for when the child gets a bit older. Moms love that , you know!
